South Staffs Water is hiring a Water Network Engineer to lead strategic network planning, optimize water infrastructure, and safeguard supply continuity for 1.7 million customers across the South Staffs and Cambridge regions.

Role Overview

As a Water Network Engineer, you’ll take charge of cross-regional supply interruption risk mitigation efforts across both strategic and distribution systems.

You will lead the planning and implementation of strategic water operations, with a strong focus on operational efficiency, network risk management, and delivering regulatory performance outcomes.

This position is based in Walsall, with regional travel required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver improvements across the water network to achieve optimum system performance
  • Manage the planning and safe execution of interventions, including mains cleaning programs (PODDS)
  • Coordinate hydraulic network optimization through modeling and analysis tools
  • Ensure full compliance with industry regulations and reporting standards (including DG2 and ODI)
  • Collaborate with asset planning and capital delivery teams to support mains rehabilitation projects
  • Support incident management protocols in line with internal procedures
  • Champion health, safety, and skills development across technical teams
  • Monitor and control opex/capex spending aligned with project goals

Candidate Profile

We’re seeking a results-driven engineer with a background in civil engineering water utilities or environmental engineering.

Strong stakeholder engagement and hydraulic modeling capabilities are essential.

Familiarity with risk management in water networks and a passion for public infrastructure service are highly valued.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Competency with Microsoft Office and reporting tools
  • Experience with hydraulic software modeling (preferred)
  • IOSH Managing Safely (desirable)
